2007 Music

Yes, I'm still here. I've been working on my end of the year top ten music list, like last year. It's more difficult this year than last.

For the most part, I agree with last year's list, other than numbers 9 and 10. For those of you who don't remember and are too lazy to click the link, my top ten cds of 2007.

10. Soundtrack: I'm Not There
9. Tori Amos--American Doll Posse
8. Jens Lekman--Night Falls Over Kortedala
7. Robert Plant/Alison Kraus--Raising Sand
6. Bjork--Volta
5. MIA--Kala
4. Spoon--Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
3. LCD Soundsystem--Sound of Silver
2. Amy Winehouse--Back to Black
1. Arcade Fire--Neon Bible

I don't think I've listened to anything from the I'm Not There soundtrack or the Tori cd since I wrote that list. But other than that, it was a fairly easy list. My top ten list was more or less similar to most music critics, minus a few biggies that I found disappointing (Kanye West, Radiohead, Wilco, etc).

This year, all of the music critics are rallying around guys with beards playing acoustic guitars in their bedrooms. And I'm not. I'm rallying around electronic and dance music. Maybe I'm just gaining a point on the Kinsey scale, or maybe I'm just sick of emo.

As a whole, I'd say that 2008 was a disappointing year for music. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to leave a comment and I'll try and check it out. I'll have my year-end music post later this week.
Here lies a most ridiculous raw youth, indulging himself in the literary graces that he once vowed to eschew. Now he just rocks out.
